Joanna Hawke
Joanna Hawke graduated with a Bachelor of Laws and International Relations from the University of Adelaide in 2021. Joanna then obtained her Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice and was admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of South Australia and the High Court of Australia in 2022.
Throughout her studies, Joanna enhanced her legal education while working as a law clerk in Chambers for several prominent barristers in Adelaide for three and a half years. During this time, she worked to support the barristers, directly, in relation to complex legal research tasks and drafting submissions in wide ranging civil matters.
Joanna is passionate about assisting vulnerable members of the community prior and promoting access to justice. During her studies, Joanna contributed to the Australian Lawyers for Human Rights Position Statement on young people with disabilities under South Australia’s guardianship laws, volunteered at Women’s Legal Service (SA) as a legal volunteer and with the Australian Red Cross as a police call-out volunteer.
Since practicing as a criminal defence lawyer at Carter & Co, Joanna has appeared in all Magistrates Court criminal jurisdictions in South Australia. She has assisted in research and preparation in a District Court trial and looks forward to expanding her legal knowledge and advocacy skills.
